The Law on Higher Education (Закон України ‘Про вищу освіту’) defines the conditions for the training of scientific and pedagogical staff. Academic staff must have a master’s degree obtained at any higher education institution (HEI). There is no separate training programme for this, and specialised pedagogical education is not required. The charter of an HEI may establish additional requirements for persons eligible to hold academic staff positions, in line with current legislation. Most HEIs make use of this provision and regulate qualification requirements for academic staff by developing job descriptions and other internal documents. Through professional development, academic staff may obtain an academic degree (Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Arts, Doctor of Science) or an academic title (Associate Professor, Professor).
